The People of Parihaka
In Room 1 we have been learning about the people of Parihaka. The story of Parihaka is when the soldiers came to the village and the people heard they were coming. They prepared by baking them bread and the children were dancing and singing. The soldiers felt guilty that they were destroying their houses and taking the fathers to jail. They felt guilty because the people were greeting them very nicely and were not attacking them or fighting. Once the men got out of jail they came home peacefully and started to rebuild their houses and town. The people of Parihaka believed in God and peace.

The Sleepover Jackpot
For writing we were describing. We had to use specific nouns, adjectives and juicy verbs to start some sentences and a simile. I found it easy to write the story because it was a fun time. I found it tricky to use juicy verbs. Next time I will try use more juicy verbs and extend myself by adding to the success criteria.
After picking up Daisy on the way to Galaxy World in the car, we were talking about what we were going to get with our tickets. Once we got there, the first game we played was like a monster wheel. I spun first. I won 50 tickets. Then Daisy spun and she won the mini jackpot of 100 tickets. I had one last spin I only got 10 tickets. Daisy had her last spin and she won... 1,000 tickets. Mega jackpot! Wow! It felt like the tickets would not stop coming out - we were so so so happy. We played a few more games before we left. By then we were hungry so on the way home we got McDonalds. Daisy and I both love McDonald's chicken nuggets so we got some. After we got the food, we went home. Once we got home, we started to watch a movie. It was called Edward Scissorhands. It was so funny. Our favourite part was the waterbed scene. By then we went to sleep. In the morning we played with all the cool things we got like emoji pillows and more. By then it was time to go so she went home. We both had fun at the sleepover.

Speeches
This week we presented our speeches in Room One. I enjoyed making the cue cards. I felt a little nervous presenting my speech. Next time I would try and do it on something no one else was doing and I would try and not get nervous.
We included our pepeha. We had to use a clear voice, stand still, look up, go at our own pace, use expression and be confident.
My speech was on Climate Change. You can see this on last weeks post.

Climate change
We've all heard of it, but what is climate change and what is it doing to our planet? Lots of people think that climate change and global warming are the same but they're not,Global warming is the Earth getting hotter and hotter but climate change is the effects of the weather and temperature getting warmer such as more storms, glaciers melting and rainforests burning. Since January 72,000 fires in the Amazon rainforest have been burning and there were 9,000 in the last week. In fact 20% of the Earth's oxygen comes from the Amazon rainforest. Habitats are getting destroyed by fire, smoke, and heat, and half of the world's species comes from their. Temperatures are getting warmer and glaciers are melting.
I think we need to stop burning down the animals habitats. I think we need to stop climate change because it's making our planet sad.

Caged chickens should be banned
In my class we have been researching caged chickens should be banned
i enjoyed researching the facts about chickens
I found it tricky to write the whole thing in time
Caged chickens should be banned
Would you like to be stuck in a cage for your whole life?
I think caged chickens should not be allowed. Because they don't get to enjoy life how they want. One of the main reasons that caged chickens should be banned is because there are rows and rows of cages, And 82% of chickens in New Zealand are caged. And there are 45000 chickens in one barn. I strongly agree that chickens should be able to live there live the way they want to. By Cody

Interdependence
In Room 1 we have been learning about interdependence. Interdependence is when two animals help each other to survive in the wild.
Our digital learning was to create an eye-catching google drawing, remove the background of one of our animals and finish the task on time.
I enjoyed making the google drawing and researching the facts.
I found it challenging to do some of the facts.
Next time I would change it so that I would have more facts on my google drawing.

Winter
In my class we have been doing winter writing and learning to use adjectives, similes, and specific nouns.
I enjoyed writing about winter because it was easy to describe. I found it tricky to peer assess.
Outside, frosty cold trees blow in the chilly wind. Stiff grass crunches under every slow step. Up in the sky, still dark grey misty air feels cold and alone.

Mix it up
In my class we have been doing science and one of our experiments is mix it up,
here's my story.
Mix it up
here's my story.
Mix it up
Why do some ingredients seem to disappear when you mix them together? And others don't? A mixture is two or more combinations that can be separated. If you put some iron filings in some sand and add water and raro and mix. Then get a magnet and it will take out the iron filings. To separate the sand and raro pore the sand and raro into a cup with filter paper. It will separate the sand from the raro. To get the raro back into Crystal form put it in the sun and the water will evaporate turning it back into Crystal form.

Yeast bubbles
In my class we have been learning what makes yeast bubbles
here's what I've done.
Yeast bubbles
here's what I've done.
Yeast bubbles
Have you ever wondered what activates yeast? First you get some yeast, sugar, and some warm water. Get a cup and put your warm water in the cup and add one and a half teaspoons of yeast and some sugar. Wait 10 minutes. You will have a big yeast bubble in your cup. But if you get another cup and get one and a half teaspoon of yeast and warm water and wait another 10 minutes it will not be as big because the sugar helps the yeast grow. Yeast bubbles are formed by the sugar and warm water making carbon dioxide and the carbon dioxide creates the yeast bubbles.
